GDPR and DataGDPR Compliant Widgets
At Strossle, we’ve decided to apply a strict view on how to interpret the GDPR when designing our widgets to guarantee that we are 100% compliant. For us, the GDPR is more than a regulation, it’s part of a global shift toward better privacy for all internet users. We know that it’s possible to provide the world’s best recommendations and take privacy seriously at the same time!
100% GDPR safe
The core of Strossle is our powerful recommendation engine. It matches the right content with the right context in the Strossle widget, resulting in more engaged users on your website. The recommendations are generated by our own machine learning algorithm, which maps out how articles relate to each other in a way that no human can. This results in an optimal mix of great content recommendations for the user, without having to depend on personal data. This means that you, as a publisher, can keep using Strossle on all of your websites without requiring any additional consent from users.
The GDPR is a good thing
We believe that a stricter view on personal data worldwide is a good thing. Many software companies have stored data for a long time without giving anything back to the users. Unlike some providers, we don’t think it’s fair that you, as a publisher, should ask for consent to store personal data on behalf of third-party suppliers. When you ask your readers for consent, it should be for data that you actually need to give your users better journalism and a better experience.
What user data do we store?
Apart from the huge amounts of content data that we save in our platform, to understand how articles should be combined to maximize user engagement, we store two kinds of user data, that are both compliant with the GDPR:
Ad-fraud data
To store data in order to detect fraud is mentioned as one of the legitimate reasons under the GDPR. We detect ad-fraud by storing IP-addresses for 60 days. These IP-addresses are not used for anything else.
Geographic data
We identify what region a person is in when we give the user recommendations, but this data is never collected on a more detailed level.
When you partner up with Strossle, you can rest assured that you’re not breaking any regulations and that you’re a part of the future.
